Recently I have become interested in the idea of amateur astronomy. How much do I need to spend on a telescope to be able to see anything interesting? What kind of telescope do I need? What strength magnification do I need? How much do I need to spend?

    Latin or Standard?

What are the determining qualities that differ the pro dancers with the amateur ones? What are the requirements needed for an amateur to “upgrade” into a pro dancer? And how long does it usually take for a dancer to move up from amateur to pro? I know that it could take up for years, but how long usually..?

Sometimes I see great ballroom couples on amateur level and I thought to myself, howcome they don’t just compete as pro?

Can anybody explain to me? Thank you in advance.
One more question, what is the difference between WDSF (formerly known as IDSF) and WDC? Can a dancer register in both organizations simultaneously? Thank you.

I am an amateur photographer and have started taking pictures at more public events such as races, parades, and speeches. I was wondering how I should go about obtaining a pass to get where I need to go in the action (ex. In the middle of the track at a race). How can I get such passes.
    Thank you

    Yeh that is my question.

Could Clyde Tombaugh be considered as an amateur? Although I just read that he has 2 astronomy degrees. However discovering Pluto is pretty impressive.

I remember when they used to say the olympics was amateur athletes you couldn’t be pro. Watching the hockey game in the olympics all the players are NHL professionals. When and why did this change?

Can we compare players and teams from the amateur era to the modern era of proffessionalism?

Just look at the 1982 SA vs. NZ Tour, the quality of the rugby compared to now is, without being rude, shocking. The modern era is much better. I know purists will always tell of how the game was just as good back then as it is now, but honestly do you truely believe that???

Its not that the players were sh*t back then, they played to the standard at the time and it was entertaining, and yes I do respect that era and what it achieved, but one cannot deny that the players of today are more precise (not neccessarily more skilled) but have refined their skills to be more accurate and clinical (just watch a lineout from the 80’s compared to now and you’ll see what I mean)

Anyways, what’s your opinion? I wanna stress that I’m not dissing the amateur era, mearly stating that if one was to choose the greatest team of all time wouldn’t it consist of modern proffessional players rather than the older amateur era?

I am interested in getting started with amateur radio with a budget close to $300 or $400
I would prefer a handheld but could also consider a mobile radio for car and home.
I don’t know what the most prevalent radio bands are being used for things such as police and fire etc, but the reason I am looking for a ham type radio is besides scanning police and fire I would like to be able to also communicate on VHF/UHF bands that the radios on my school campus use (I have an on campus job and would like my own personal radio to have instead of using the department’s)

    Thanks for the help!
